Attawapiskat River

Let yourself be swept away by the wild beauty of the Attawapiskat River, a famous trophy fishing destination. Known for its breathtaking landscapes and exceptional biodiversity, this river is the perfect getaway for passionate anglers and nature adventurers. We offer unique and extraordinary adventures for a self guided trip fishing, paddling and wilderness camping. There are many ways to enjoy this trip.

A Fisherman’s Paradise

The Attawapiskat River offers unparalleled fishing conditions. The purity of the water and the richness of aquatic habitats ensure an abundance of fish. Walleye, prized for its delicious flesh, is one of the main attractions of the river. Thrill-seekers will be delighted, as the northern pike of the Attawapiskat River presents a true challenge. This powerful and aggressive predator offers a memorable fight. As we say “On the Attawapiskat, when it hits, it hits hard!”

Wilderness Adventure

The Attawapiskat River is not just a fishing destination. It’s also a haven for adventurers seeking authentic wilderness experiences. Travel along the shores lined with dense forests, admiring the exceptional flora and fauna. Photography enthusiasts will find endless opportunities to capture magical moments here. It is imperative to have knowledge of wild rivers and experience with DIY camping/ paddling trips to ensure a safe trip.
  • Begin the adventure at Carey Lake, our float plane base just outside Hearst Ontario, and fly due north for approximately 2hrs over 200 miles of tundra and boreal forest.
  • Drift down the Attawapiskat River with the current and oars. For better autonomy and to give you the opportunity to navigate upstream when needed, we strongly recommend bringing an outboard motor with a maximum weight of 65 lbs. Please note that for your safety, the weight of the outboard motor is non-negotiable and will be checked before your departure.
  • Land at the Pym Island base camp, you will get 2 Porta-Botes for your trip. Each boat accommodates 2 anglers and cargo/gear. With a wide bottom and plenty of room this vessel will be a great option for drifting, paddling and navigating along the river to allow you extraordinary fishing opportunities
  • Camping locations are flexible, depending on what the river offers. However, we have also prepared camping stations equipped with a platform, overhang, firepit, and an area to hang and dry your clothes and equipment in case of rain. You will cook your meals over an open fire, witness the mesmerizing northern lights, and plan your next day’s expedition into some of the best trophy fishing waters you will ever experience.
