Holding a planning meeting with the group is a must to eliminate duplicate items. Take the time to discuss past trips and think of items you’ve brought before and really didn’t use or need. This goes for food, clothes and fishing equipment. Also discuss what you are willing to sacrifice as a group if paying the overload charge is not a possibility for everyone. Please make sure everyone in the group understands, there is an extra cost for flying overloads.
100 lbs of cargo/food/beverage per person (based on body weight up to 220 lbs)
Example – if you weigh up to 220 lbs, you can bring 100 lbs, if you weigh more than 220, simply deduct from your cargo weight. You can average the weights out for the group. 320 lbs x 4 = 1280 lbs total for a group of 4
If an extra flight is needed to fly in the extra weight the
you can leave 100 lbs total for the group check flight
you can leave 50 lbs total for the group check flight
Remember that if there is an overload on the way in, there is an overload on the way out. All extra flying will be charged. If the weight is mostly beer and food, then it’s usually not a concern as you will have it consumed.
We are attempting to join the recycling system of our community and because all the garbage is flown back, we need to structure the garbage and waste coming back from the camps to easily dispose and recycle what we can. Be conscious of how your food is packaged to avoid waste.
Quality CLEAR medium size garbage bags (no large bags please)
Communicate with the group and ask about any allergies, preferences, dislikes… this will bring you to a grocery list that suits everyone. Plastic containers instead of glass jars, powdered juice, milk, soups and sauces… this will save on weight, but please consider containers you don’t through away.
There are items that don’t need to be repeated for every person of the group. These are necessary for the group. You can assign the list to one person, or give parts to each one. Whatever works for you. Again, this is to help with eliminating too many of the same thing.
*** tip – Get one medium duffel and commit to this ONE BAG***
Think layers, with one good rain suit and extra socks. A FEW changes of clothes for varying weather conditions. Fast drying clothes are great and eliminate having to bring many outfits.
Hat and polarized sunglasses tip—have straps for your glasses to avoid dropping them in the lake
Then comes tackle! The most important part of a fishing trip. Please keep in mind the species you will be fishing for. Clean out the bass, trout, bluegill and other tackle you will not need. The water is tea stained therefore bright colors are great for walleye jigs and jig tails. The pike are ferocious and will leap at anything… spoons, surface lures and leach like baits are great with perch colors and silver too. Once again, XL tackle boxes are heavy and not always necessary so think about downsizing for the trip.
Tips ~ Worms are efficient, and they last longer. You can call the Bait shop ahead of time to have your bait ready for your pick up the day before your morning fly-in.
Enjoy a smooth and stress-free start to your adventure with our tailored pre-departure amenities:
Weight your final personal gear on your home scale
Prescription medication (be sure to pack what you need, add aspirin, Benadryl and any other medications related to your known conditions or risks)
For early June and fall trips neoprene gloves and warm boots (just in case)
If there are bonus items you would like, above what you know is a necessity, you are welcome to bring it separate from your luggage. If there is room on the plane for it, we will be more than GLAD to add it on for you. But if you pack it all in together and you are told you need to remove 50 lbs from your gear to avoid overload charges, then it will be difficult for you to pick apart everything as people are waiting to load the plane. Please consider this when you are packing. Conclusion, your essentials will be weighed first then the overloads can be weighed and brought in as soon as the plane is available. Whatever it is that you want to make this trip the greatest for YOU is not a problem at all.
Pre–Fly-In Comfort Package:
